“The Water Archivist” on H2O Talk with Patty Rettig

What is a water archivist? Recently, hydrologist and professor Tom Bellinger invited CSU Libraries water archivist Patty Rettig, on his podcast, H2O Talk, to have a conversation about her career and the Water Resources Archive. They discuss a range of topics, including what a water archive is, what an archivist does, the importance of digitization, and how the archive is open to anyone.

“What makes the [Water Resources Archive] unique is that everything we have itself is unique. What we have in the archive are the ‘raw materials of history.'” – Patty Rettig, water archivist

Historical CSU student comedian competition on Kelly Clarkson

Recently CSU alum and popular comedian Leslie Jones was surprised during an interview with Kelly Clarkson, when Clarkson shared a 1987 article from CSU’s student paperThe Collegian. The article celebrates 19-year-old Jones’ early talent for stand-up during a student competition, “Funniest Person on Campus,” and cites a quote from Jones about what makes a good comedian. The CSU Libraries provides digital access to historical issues of the Collegian, from 1891 to 1976, and 2006 to present.

“Where did you find that? Yo, I don’t even have this. That’s crazy. I said that?” – Leslie Jones, (B.A. ’89)

Music History and the Rolling Stones at Moby Gym

Denver radio station KBCO 97.3FM gave the Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections a shout-out in their article, “On this day in music history: 11.7” by sharing a detailed invoice from the CSU Board of Governors Collection. Following a 1969 Rolling Stones concert at Moby Gym, the Board of Governors sent a bill for $5,873—today almost $40,000—to cover damages to Moby Gym. The detailed invoice includes damages such as “193 cigarette burn holes on basketball floor,” “burned tarp,” and “broken towel dispenser.”
